Are you still using a free Gmail or Outlook email address for your business? This can sometimes put customers off using your service. A lot of customers will expect you to have a website and business email address with your own company name. For example email@example.com looks much more professional than firstname.lastname@example.org.
Let’s look at an example…
If you were booking a holiday and the travel agency asked you to forward some documents over to a Gmail address, would you feel confident doing so? You’d worry that the business wasn’t legitimate and more than likely wouldn’t send over your documents just in case!
If the business asked you to send over documents to their professional email such as email@example.com then you’d feel it was a legitimate business and wouldn’t think twice.
As you can see from the above example; you could be missing out on a lot of work just because of your free email address.
There are a lot more advantages other than just having a good looking email address… For example with your own domain and hosting you have full control over your website and emails. A few things you can do which you can’t do with a free email account are setting up multiple email accounts under your own domain, forwarding emails to other accounts (for example sales/billing/support all go to your main email account) and the ability to switch ISP’s whenever you wish. You’re not tied down like you would be with a free email provider.
